Tips for Well being at Work

The sad truth is that we spend A LOT of time at work. Some people thrive on this but not everyone enjoys the daily grind. Jobs are busier than ever with managers squeezing as much as humanly possible out of employees. This is why well being at work is so crucial. We all know the feeling of that dreaded afternoon lull in energy and the clock watching can become obsessive. Not to mention sitting in front of the glaring screen and the lack of lazy boys in the office.

Without my morning coffee I doubt I'd make it to work. However, too many stimulants can have that crash and burn affect. I usually have just one in the morning and try to cram as much water as I can in between as well as herbal tea which can help with mental performance.

No matter what the weather, if I have deadlines I go out for a walk every single day for 30 minutes. Even if you just get away from your desk, I see so many colleagues eating at their desk, your entitled to a break and you have to make the most of it!

Make sure you have had a health and safety assessment for your workstation. Every employer should do this when you start a job and if they don't you are entitled to it and they must make any adjustments. I have a footstool and a back rest at my desk and I have seen an improvement.

Something that's really helpful and important is that you have some friends at work. It's a long day and can be stressful and there is nothing better than having a chat or laugh with someone to help the day go in quicker and make you feel better.

Hope this helps!

Bedtime Tea

I do like a herbal tea most days and like to try new ones whenever I can. I sometimes have difficulty with insomnia like a lot of people and was keen to try this new tea when a friend recommended it. With a variety of different herbs including, lemongrass, lavender and many more it smells great too.

I used one bag initially and although I didn't feel sleepy or anything I'd say its definitely relaxing. I decided to add 2 bags the following night and let it infuse for about 5 minutes, I'd say its a kind of lemony taste, fruity, then all the flavours tend to it, I added a little honey as I do with most herbal teas so maybe try that if you don't enjoy the taste although I've tasted worse teas! After around drinking it every day for about a week I felt I was more relaxed and went to sleep easier. If you enjoy a play on words and herbal tea is your thing why not try it mine was on offer for 98p from my local ASDA too! :-)

Wellness Routine for AM to PM

Whether your a bright and breezy morning person or a night owl that finds it hard to sleep before midnight here are some wellness tips that may help you get into a good routine that suits your needs.

I like to organise what I'm wearing the next day when I'm working, so at night I'll try and lay out my clothes, yes this is to get an extra 5 minutes dreaming about Channing but I have no shame. I am a breakfast person, always have been but before anything  I have a cold glass of water (even before coffee!) - this hydrates your body after a night of fasting, can help wake you up and flushes your system.

My radio alarm is set to a great channel - I couldn't live without music - this really helps me get up and get dressed and going especially on my sleepiest mornings.

If you exercise - do it first thing in the morning. I know it's not always easy but I like to do it as early as I can, plus it gets it out of the way to get on with your day.

While in the shower use a soap/gel that you really love - I try to use a fruity one in the morning like mango or papaya for some reason it always reminds me of being on holiday!

Throughout the day drink as much water as you can - I try to have at least 1.5 litres and a few green teas in between to help boost metabolism.

After work when I get home I like to have dinner and try and relax, love my candles. I love the smell of lavender in my bedroom so usually spray that a few times and let the scent sink it. I try to stay off my phone/laptop for an hour or so before bed time. I like to write in my diary at the end of the day as it helps me to get things down if I've had a bad day and generally is just quite therapeutic for me. They say seven - eight hours sleep per night is optimal but as someone who can experience insomnia I know everyone is different. I like to read before I sleep as well - again it helps me switch off.

They say it takes around 21 days to form a new habit - give it a go!

A nice darkened room which isn't too hot and we're off to dream land (hopefully)
