Managing curly hair..

So I was born with naturally curly hair, some might say a dream. I don't agree! I am a big fan of straightening irons and would be lost without mine. However, these are some tips that do help those with curls that can be tamed! You can make sure your curls look their best always...

1. Less Is More

When you shower your hair, try to shampoo less and condition more. Unless you need to shampoo every day avoid this as it can dry your hair out. Try to limit the amount of time shampooing. Invest in a good quality conditioner will be well worth it in the long run. I really like the John Freida range but whatever you preference is.

2. Choose it..

There are so many products and brands on the market these days for all hair types. If you live in a warmer climate you can expect that your curls can become frizzy. You just have to find the right one to keep you frizz free! If you have a looser curl or even a slight wave you can choose a curl enhancer or even a light gel or spray. I like to use a diffuser/hairdryer after using some product to hold it in place if I am ever curling my hair. This should keep your hair in tact and give you a nice volume all day.

3. Brush it out (or comb it!)

Combing your hair while it still has conditioner it in will help get rid of tangles and knots. These can cause breakage and damage your hair. You can buy specialist combs for this if you like. Avoid combing your hair when you have come out of the shower as this can also create frizz. If you like to let it dry naturally apply product when out the shower.

4. Work it out!

Working out is great for your body but not always for your hair. Try to keep your hair away from your face while at the gym, and up in a ponytail if possible. If your trying to keep your curls in you can always plait it to make them last.

5. Healthy in the End

If you have long curly hair, or are trying to grow it, make you have it trimmed regularly. This will keep in in good condition and give you healthy ends.

6. Condition, Condition, Condition

Did I mention condition? This is so important! All sorts of outside factors can damage your hair. Deep conditioning treatments are great. Try to apply once a week if possible. Leave these in for around 20 minutes for quickness or overnight for a real boost.

8. Don't Take The Heat

When choosing how to dry your hair, keep in mind that heat damages your hair, especially the ends. This creates more frizz and will get you back to square one fast. ‘Drip drying’ your hair is definitely the best way to dry it as it involves no heat at all, however, if you have to use a hair dryer then use a diffuser. Hang your hair upside down and begin to dry your hair, always try to apply a heat protection spray to avoid damage.

9. Twirl it!

To define your hair more, twirl sections around your finger.

  1. Hello! This was a great read for me. I have curly hair and for the last 10 years since I discovered GHDs. I can't live without them. I have 4 sets in my flat including thin ones for my fringe and one with voltage control in the rare event I ever leave the country. I like the way the girl from Suburgatory wears her hair. I'm going to try that for the party season. My personal tip, mash up some avocado and mix with olive oil. Massage this into your hair and wash out after an hour. It leaves my hair all nourished and silky smooth. Part of my pre-night out routine!

    Stay beautiful!
